Ava Lee Carter

May 2, 1955 — April 25, 2026

Kahoka

Ava Lee Carter, 70, of Kahoka, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the Scotland County Hospital, with her loving family by her side. Ava was a kind and loving soul who is now at peace and comfort with her Lord and Savior. Ava was born on May 2, 1955, in Keokuk, Iowa to Victor and Mary (Briley) Young. Ava attended Clark County Highschool and was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Ava loved nothing more than watching the kids play sports, entertaining and cooking for everyone and being there for whoever needed a shoulder to lean on or a couch to sleep on. There was not a person that Ava would turn away from her home if they were in need. She never judged anyone and she forgave everything. She was happy being out in nature, camping, picking mushrooms, dandelion greens, or fishing. She was greatly entertained when she would watch Gerry Springer, Cops, or listen in on her scanner, and she was devoted to her “stories”, mostly Days of Our Lives, and the Young and the Restless. Ava also loved gameshows and never missed the Price is Right or Wheel of Fortune.

Ava was a second mother to everybody, and her sweet nature and loving heart will be a great loss to those she leaves behind.

Ava is survived by her daughter Mira Maggard; grandchildren Tessa Young, Derrick Davis, Drake Davis, and Dakota Davis; great-grandchildren, Elliott Davis, Evert Davis, Atlas Davis, Evelyn Davis, Deja Davis, and Matthew and Millie Smeltser; brother William Edward Young, and sisters Ruby Doty Simmons and Dianna Toben.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Veronica Young; great-grandson Holden Smeltser; brothers Samuel Robinson, and Victor Young Jr; sisters Rita Barry, Joan Hayden, Evelyn O’Day, Sandra Ringberg, and Victoria Burks.

There will be a visitation at Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am, followed by a graveside service at 11:00 am at the Kahoka Cemetery. Pastor Eric Krueger will officiate.
