William "Bill" Bair

Quincy, Illinois and formerly of Clark County

 

William “Bill” Bair, 85, formerly of Kahoka, Missouri passed away at 1:45pm on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at Sunset Home in Quincy, Illinois.

 

He was born February 8, 1938, in Kahoka, Missouri, the son of the late William C. Bair Sr. & Margery (Hutchinson) Bair.  He graduated from Clark County High School in 1956.   Bill later served in the Army Reserves for several years and later married Janet (Carter) Bair.  They united in marriage on June 16, 1963, in the Christian Church in Wyaconda, Missouri.  She survives.  Together they had two sons and he enjoyed taking them hunting & fishing when they were younger. 

 

In Bill’s early years he raced for a short period of time in Las Vegas, Nevada.  He continued his passion for racing and was later inducted into the Hall of Fame at the Quincy Raceways.  Bill worked for over 30 years at Wright Auto Parts in Quincy until his retirement.  He was known by many as the “Carburetor Man.”  He enjoyed his hobby and loved spending time with his family.

 

In addition to his wife of 59 years, Janet, Bill is survived by two sons; Brad (Jennifer) Bair of Mendon, Illinois, Kurt Bair of Quincy, Illinois, eight grandchildren; Melissa (Jeff) Ohnemus, Cheyenne (Seth) Browning, Ashten Dietrich, Noah Dietrich, Madison Walker, Tanner (Sharon) Andrews, Lilly & Odessa Carper, nine great grandchildren, three brothers; Gene (Shirley) Bair, Mark (Kris) Bair, Jim (Cindy) Bair, four sisters; Mary Hamner, Ruthie Hamner, Jeanette Parker-Small and Mila (Marshall) Suddarth.

 

Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a brother in infancy, father-in-law; Ernest Carter, mother-in-law; Beulah Carter, two brothers-in-law Ron Hamner & John Small.

 

Funeral services honoring Bill’s life will be conducted at 1:00pm Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at the Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home in Kahoka.  Pastor Rick Addison will officiate.  Cremation Rites will be accorded immediately following the funeral service.  Visitation will be held from 11:00am until the time of services at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions in memory of Bill are suggested to the family.  You are invited to share your memories of Bill and leave a condolence at www.wilsontriplett.com.
