WALTER H. "BURLEY" GRIMES
Walter H. "Burley" Grimes, age 85, of Wyaconda, MO, died Tuesday, May 9, 2006 in Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.
He was born August 15, 1920 at Warsaw, IL, a son of Walter J. and Beatrice Agnes Henderson Grimes.
He married Imogene Blattner on September 28, 1941 at Davison, MI. She preceded him in death on February 19, 1997.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen A. Roberts of Kirksville, MO and Diane LaFrenz and her husband, Robert, of Canton, MO; four grandchildren: Kelly Roberts Bailey and her husband, Mike, of Galesburg, IL, Lori LaFrenz Denz and her husband, Jeff, of Burlington, IA, T. J. LaFrenz and his friend, Heather Bigelow, of Keokuk, IA, and Mendy LaFrenz Buehler and her fiancé, Chad Flesner of Quincy, IL; ten great grandchildren: Steele and Skyler Boughton of Galesburg, IL, Laken and Macey Bergman and Kallie Denz, all of Burlington, IA, Harley Bigelow of Keokuk, IA, and Chaizly Carlin, Remington Buehler, and Trey and Bryce Flesner, all of Quincy, IL; a niece and nephew, Alta Dicks of Warsaw, IL and Bill Grimes and his wife, Sherry of
Wyaconda, MO; also great nieces and nephews, a cousin, and, other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a brother, John William Grimes.
"Burley" was a graduate of Wyaconda High School. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the V.F. W. at Memphis, MO. He was also a member of the Wyaconda Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge.
He had farmed most of his life as well as running a plumbing business in the Wyaconda area until retiring several years ago. He loved working, particularly on the farm. He enjoyed time spent with his friends and drinking coffee with them as well as the companionship of his dog. More than anything, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Funeral services are Friday, May 12, 2006 at 10 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Rev. Ernest Deatrick officiating. Burial with full military rites will follow in the Wyaconda Cemetery.
Friends can call after 9 a.m. Thursday at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m.
