VIRGINIA R. "PUMPKIN" WHITEAKER

Virginia R. Whiteaker, age 85, of Kahoka, MO, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 in the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA.

Virginia was born May 30, 1935 in Kahoka, MO, a daughter of Aaron and Lucille Bair Speake.

On October 18, 1952, she was united in marriage to Carroll Whiteaker at Pocahonas, AR. He preceded her in death on July 30, 2012.

Survivors include her children: Beverly (Mark) Armstrong, David (Tina) Whiteaker, Jeff (Linda) Whiteaker, Betty Jane (Roger) Ludwick, and Carolyn (Roger) McAllister, all of Kahoka;

ten grandchildren: Dani Murphy of Jacksonville, IL, Jason (Peggiann) Murphy of Burlington, Terra Whiteaker of Kahoka, Erin (Nick) Swindler of Keokuk, David Whiteaker, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, Kristin (Wes) Schlatter of Kahoka, Bryan Ludwick and Dylan Ludwick both of Peaksville, Paige McAllister and Joel McAllister, both of Kahoka; seven step-grandchildren: Robert (Nathan) Hanley of PA, Charlie Hanley, David (Alisha) McGeehon and Brittany Cruz,all of Kahoka, Daniel Ludwick of Revere, Megan Salyers of Kahoka and Brandon (Courtney) Salyers of Wyaconda; fourteen great grandchildren: Keely Murphy of Jacksonville, IL, Kaleb Kelley of Medill, Kayse Louck of Jacksonville, Addison Murphy of Moline and Cameron Gittings of Burlington, Alicia Dolan of Medford, OR, Jessica Fountain of Cedar Rapids, Kelton Smith and Donovan Smith of Washington, IA, Zaiden Swindler and Jasper Swindler of Keokuk, Gary Whiteaker of Washington, IA, and Konnor Schlatter and Blake Schlatter of Kahoka; nine step great-grandchildren: Emily McGeehon, Colton McGeehon, Bentlee McGeehon and Alexis McGeehon, all of Kahoka, Miranda Salyers of Rock Island, IL, Victor Steele and Cameron Leeper of Kahoka, Braxton Salyers of Wyaconda and Marilyn Sue Groselose of Revere; five great great-grandchildren: Carolina Dolan of Keokuk, Willow St. Clair and Sophie St. Clair of Medford, OR, Freya Rose Anderson of Cedar Rapids and Ryland Smith of Washington, IA; a sister, Veva Haage (Mitchell Long) of Wayland; two sisters-in-law, Betty Rosencrans of Kahoka and Linda Edmondson of Canton; her fur babies Snoop and Stripe (aka fat tail); several cousins and much loved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brothers-in-law: Gary Whiteaker, Charles "Mert" Rosencrans, Dean Edmondson, and Glen Haage; and dear friend, Norma Brink.

Virginia graduated from Kahoka High School in the Class of 1952. She had a few jobs through the years but her family was her priority. She always made fun wherever she was. She had been an avid hunter and fisher in her day.

At Virginia’s request, cremation rites have been accorded and there will be no visitation or services.

Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka handled the arrangements for Virginia’s family.
