Virginia Ann (Hyde) Bertram, age 83 of Gorin, Missouri, passed away on December 24th, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Virginia was born January 26, 1942, to Hollis and Nellie (Smith) Hyde. On August 11, 1963, Virginia was united in marriage to Frederick Nelson Bertram. Fred and Virginia were blessed with 55 years of marriage when Fred passed in 2019. Virginia is survived by their children: Tina (Kirk) Townsend of Wyaconda, Tracy (Leslie) Waterman of Donnellson, Iowa, and Timothy (Melissa) Bertram of Kahoka; five grandchildren: Bradley (Marci) Waterman of Marion, Iowa, Joshua (Taylar) Townsend of Arbela, Taylor (Cole) Waterman Courtney, of Montrose, Iowa, Danielle Townsend of Wyaconda, and Chloe Bertram of Kahoka and great-grandchildren: Emma, Brett and Rylee Waterman, Prestyn Townsend, Avery Courtney and Greyson Bertram; and step-grandsons Garrett, Samuel, Zachariah, and Matthew Trent. She is also survived by her brother, Leland (Dolores) Hyde of Memphis and sister, Barbara (Norman) Hughes of Kirksville, sisters-in-law, Margaret Hyde of Independence, Kathy Hyde of Conway and brother-in-law, Asie Boatman, of Kahoka; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, father and mother-in law, Nelson and Etsil (Cunningham) Bertram, grandson, Drew Bertram, an infant grandson, siblings Charles, Genieve Ridge, Carol Bundy, Ruth Moore, Mary Drummond, Delbert, Phil, Evelyn Gatlin, and Nelda Boatman.
Virginia was a 1960 graduate of Memphis High School. She was a devoted farm wife and mother. Fred and Virginia could often be found working in the fields or working livestock together on the farm, which has been in the Bertram family since 1905; and has been recognized as a Missouri Century Farm. She was very active in community service. Virginia served on the Wyaconda Community Betterment Committee and was a founding member of the Wyaconda C-I Athletic Booster Club. Virginia was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wyaconda and a former leader of the Busy Bee 4-H Club. She loved her Thursday morning Wyaconda Red Hatter breakfast dates and their outings. Virginia took great pride in her family and home. Virginia hosted numerous family holidays and planned the annual Hyde Family reunion. She rarely missed any of her children or grandchildren’s sporting events, music concerts, 4-H/FFA activities and was often a “room mother” for her children during their elementary school years. Virginia was a skilled seamstress and cook. In a family photo, Virginia, Tina and Tracy are in matching dresses and Fred and Tim are in matching jackets which she handcrafted with love. Virginia also made elaborate Halloween costumes for her grandchildren including a cow costume complete with horns from the Bertram cattle herd. She crafted numerous Americana flag bricks and traveled to local craft shows displaying them. Virginia was known in the community for her homemade donuts, noodles, pies and oatmeal cake.
Funeral Services for Virginia Ann Bertram will be held Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 11:00 am at Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home, Kahoka, MO with burial at the Wyaconda Cemetery. Pastor James Cross will officiate. Visitation with family present will be held at the Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home, Saturday, January 3, 2026, from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am. Memorials in memory of Virginia Ann Bertram are suggested to Wyaconda Cemetery, Wyaconda Fire Dept. or Goldenhearts in Home Care LLC.
