VICTORIA BURKS

Victoria M. Burks, age 66, of Wyaconda, Mo, died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at her home.

Vickie was born April 16, 1949 in Keokuk, IA, a daughter of Victor E. and Mary Dorine Briley Young.

On November 5, 1966, she married Donnie Burks at the Kahoka Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband of almost 50 years, Donnie, of Wyaconda; three sons, Charles Donald (Tracy) Burks, Jr. of Kahoka, Emmanuel Lee (Juanita) Burks, Sr. of Columbia, and Curtis Alan Burks of Wyaconda; one daughter, Mary V. Paul of Wyaconda; Michelle Coop of Kahoka, her granddaughter whom she raised as her own; grandchildren: Glenn A. House, Jr. of Wyaconda, Jessica N. McCluskey of Wyaconda, Heidi Burks of Luray, Sean (Heather) Barnhart of Columbia, Chris M. Barnhart of Columbia, Emmanuel L. Burks, Jr. of Moberly, and Jonathan Burks of Columbia; great-grandchildren: Mavryc and Oryan House, Heavenlly House, Gabreila Bennett, Bentley House, Tyree, Deonta and Destanie Haroldson, Trayton Coop, and Cameron, DiJon and Temperance Barnhart; one brother, William (Brenda) Young of Kahoka; five sisters: Ruby "Dodie" Simmons, Evelyn O'Day, Ava Carter and Dianna Sommers Toben, all of Kahoka and Rita (Vaughn) Barry of Alexandria; brother-in-law, Bill Hayden of Kahoka; Mira Maggard of Lebanon, MO, and Chad Young of Burlington, who were very special to her; as well as other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor E. Young and Mary Young Helm; step-fathers, Clifton Helm and Richard Gregory; brothers, Victor Young, Jr. and Samuel E. Robison; sisters, Joan Hayden and Sandra Ringenberg; brothers-in-law, Jeff LeMaster, Gary Simmons, Floyd Sommers, and Steve Toben; and a nephew, Larry Hayden.

Vickie had worked in several nursing and boarding homes in Kahoka and Keokuk including Sunny Acres, Josephine Shoups', Lee County Convalescent Home, Lahoma Guttings' and the Clark County Nursing Home. She later worked at the Garment Factory in Memphis and retired from the Industrial Opportunities in Kahoka.

Vickie was a member of the Kahoka Christian Church. She loved to cook, crochet, and sing. She sang many songs her dad sang to her as a little girl and then discovered Karaoke which she enjoyed with her daughter, Mary. When her children were small, there were always kids hanging around the house and she enjoyed them and made them welcome. She was always encouraging her children and those around her. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and an Elvis fan.

Memorial services were held Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Kahoka Christian Church with Rev. James Campbell officiating and Mrs. Kathy Campbell, pianist. Selections were "Dancing in the Sky", "I Will Always Love You", "In the Garden", "Old Shep", and "The Old Rugged Cross.
