Vanetta J. Dalton, 98, of Kahoka, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka, with her loving family at her side.
She was born May 7, 1926, in Chambersburg, MO., the daughter of George Riley Dust and Bertha Mae (Blanton) Dust. She attended school up to 8th grade at Chambersburg School.
She married Henry O’Day May 4, 1946, in Canton, MO., and they were blessed with 3 children. He preceded her in death in 1971. She later married Lester Dalton on November 17, 1973, in Kalona, IA., and he preceded her in death in 1990.
Vanetta enjoyed being outdoors, working in her garden and tending to her beautiful flowers. Vanetta and Henry raised cattle, sheep, hogs and chickens, and while Henry was gone to work, she would be taking care of the farm doing all the chores which consisted of, gathering eggs, milking, feeding and watering the livestock. When Lester and Vanetta were married, they raised miniature horses, mules and brahman bulls. Vanetta was known in Clark County and Keokuk, Iowa “The Pie Lady”. She would make 40 to 50 pies and take them to the farmers market along with her cinnamon rolls, angel food cakes and banana bread, people would lineup anxiously. Vanetta would even get calls daily from the community to place orders for her baked goods. She enjoyed visiting with people, loved her family, and holiday gatherings.
She is survived by her daughter: Sandra Kirchner of Kahoka, MO., 7 grandchildren: Danny Kirchner, Angie Kirchner, Patricia (Danny) Trone, Tammi (Roger) Hurt, Jeanne Springer, Rita Brunk, Lisa O’Day, 14 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands: Henry O’Day, Lester Dalton, 2 sons: Robert Gale O’Day, Gary Patrick O’Day, son-in-law: Wayne Kirchner, daughter-in-law: Evelyn O’Day, 2 brothers: Everett Dust, Richard Dust, 3 sisters: Helen Dust in infancy, Alma Dochterman, Genevieve Bailey, and 1 grandson: Andy Kirchner.
Funeral Services for Vanetta J. Dalton will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at the Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home in Kahoka, Missouri. Pastor Shawn McAfee will officiate. Burial will follow at the Kahoka Cemetery, Kahoka, Missouri. Visitation with family present will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am at Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home.
