VADEN C. GUTTING

Vaden C. Gutting, age 79, of Kahoka, MO, died Tuesday, January 20, 2004 in Keokuk Area Hospital.

He was born April 24, 1924 near Revere, MO, a son of Earl S. and Lula E. Horton Gutting.

He was married to Bernice Roberts on October 19, 1942. She preceded him in death on

January 21, 1963. He and Judy Allen were married in June of 1977.

Survivors include his wife, Judy, of Kahoka, MO; two sons, Vaden L. "Bud" Gutting and his wife, Deborah, of Quincy, IL, and Chuck Gutting and his wife, Jessica of Clayton, IL; two daughters, Connie Gutting Bertelli and Brenda Gutting, both of Quincy, IL; one step son, Joe Terrill and his wife, Jocelyn, of Hill Air Base, UT; four step daughters, Angel Gustin and her husband, Richard, of Nauvoo, IL, Connie S. Fulkerson and her husband, Ronnie, of Wynne, AR, Nancy McAndrew and her husband, Tom, of Ottumwa, IA, and Shelly Wood and her husband, Gary, of Arbela, MO; a brother, Ronnie Gutting and his wife, Dixie, of Wyaconda, MO; sister, Claire Summerall of Ottumwa, IA; 23 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bernice; two brothers, Verle Dean and Vance Gutting; and a sister, Veda Bogguss.

Vaden attended school in Revere, MO before entering the U. S. Army. He was a Veteran of World War II, receiving two Purple Hearts. He had been employed by the former Martin Chevrolet as a salesman before opening G & W Garage which he operated for 36 years. He later ran a small engine business out of his home. He was a member of the Kahoka Christian Church.

Vaden enjoyed playing cards, woodworking, and fishing. He liked keeping busy and was most happy when working and visiting with his friends. He loved and cherished his family.

Funeral services are Thursday, January 22, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Rev. Dick Clifford officiating. Burial with full military rites will be in Kahoka Cemetery.

Friends can call after 10 a.m. Wednesday at Wilson Funeral Home with family receiving friends 6-8 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Clark Co. Ambulance District.
