Ruby Pauline Wood

February 20, 1930 — December 6, 2025

Illinois/Clark County, MO

R Pauline Wood, age 95 of West Dundee, IL formerly of Clark County, died on December 6, 2025 at her residence.

Ruby Pauline Wood was born on February 20, 1930, at the family home in Winchester, Mo to Glenn Arthur and Ernestine Mae (Kennedy) Hunziker. She was the youngest of six children.

Pauline was united in marriage to Joseph Dean Wood on May 18, 1950, in Springfield, Mo by the Rev. Hugh Isabell. He preceded her in death on March 9, 2010, two months before their 60th wedding anniversary.

Pauline worked on the family farm until her marriage. She had milked cows since she was a little girl and made the comment when she married that she would pay $5.00 for a gallon of milk before she would milk another cow. Little did she know that it is almost that much in some areas of the country.

Pauline drove the family car, which would become a designated school bus Monday through Friday, from 1960-1966 for Pleasant Hill School. Later in 1966, she and Dean bought the business that would become Wood’s Packaged Liquor and Fireworks on old Highway 61. They ran the business until 1992 when they closed the station but continued to run the Fireworks business until 2007 when the new road opened and old Highway 61 closed. Pauline loved her flowers, especially red geraniums. When she moved to Mt. Zion, IL, she even took some of her plants with her to her new house.

Pauline is survived by one son, Ronnie (Ryanne) of rural Canton, MO; two daughters, Connie (Steve) Cloud of Mt. Zion, IL and Trudy (Michael) Tanner of Sleepy Hollow, IL; six grandchildren, Brendan (Maddie) Hammel of La Harpe, IL; Brandon Cloud of Quincy, IL, Justin Cloud (Kerry Boothby and her son Ryan) of Mt. Juliet, TN, Austin (Nicole King) Tanner of Elgin, IL, Carson (Kayla) Tanner of Prairie City, IA and Olivia (Dylan) Turner of Genoa, IL; two great-grandsons, Jackson Cloud of Mt. Juliet, TN and Maddox Turner of Genoa, IL; and her nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Pauline was preceded in death by her husband Dean, her parents, two brothers Junior (Lenora), Earl (Gladys); sisters Nettie (Junior) Bash, Wilma (Bob) Boudreau, Leona “Tootie” (Roland) Roach.
