Richard "Dick" Whitney

Richard M. “Dick” Whitney, 66, passed away at 10:24 am on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois, with his family by his side.  Richard was born on July 13, 1957, in Dansville, NY., to John and Delores (Finch) Whitney.  He was united in marriage to Noreen (Pfeiffer) Whitney on July 31, 1981, at Wayland, NY., and she survives.

Dick graduated from Wayland Central High School in Wayland, NY., in 1975.  After high school he joined the Marine Corp and proudly served his country for 7 years.  Richard later furthered his education with an associate degree at Finger Lake Community College in Canandaigua, NY.  He then was employed as a   Grounds Keeper for FLCC for many years.  In 2016 Dick and Noreen moved to St Patrick MO., and Dick was known as the Mayor of St Patrick. Dick said he wished they had moved to MO., 40 years ago.  Richard was outdoorsman, he cut wood, kept a neat yard, put in a large garden, and enjoyed the friendships that he and Noreen would make while setting up at the Farmers Market. Dick loved his family especially his grandchildren and spending time with them.    

Richard “Dick” Whitney is survived by his wife of 42 years Noreen, 2 sons: Logan (Sarah) Whitney of Cheyenne, WY., Shelby (Heidi) Whitney of Wayland, MO., 8 grandchildren: Benjamin, Sarah Elizabeth, Edith, Ida, Nathaniel Jasper, Talitha, Lydia, Esther, 2 brothers: Shawn Whitney of GA., Cory Whitney of NY., and other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and 1 brother in infancy Eric Whitney.

Funeral Services for Richard “Dick” Whitney will be held Thursday, April 18, 2024, at 12:00 pm at Shrine of St Patrick Church, in St Patrick, Mo., with burial at the St Patrick Cemetery with full military rites. Pastor Shelby Whitney will officiate.

Visitation will be held at the Shrine of St Patrick Church on Thursday, April 18, 2024, with family present from 10:00 am until time of service at 12:00 pm.

Memorials contribution in memory of Dick Whitney are suggested to the Local Clark County Helping Hands, St. Patrick Cemetery Renovation Project, Cowboy Country Church, Wayland, Mo.
