Paula Jo "PJ" Acklie

Paula Jo “PJ” Acklie, 73, of Kahoka, MO., passed away at 5:20 am at Birkwood Village in Fort Madison, IA., on Thursday, October 31, 2024.

She was born December 5, 1950, in Keosauqua, IA., the daughter of Paul Lowery and Veronica (Strabala) Lowery. She graduated from Harmony High School in 1969. PJ started her working career at the Tasty Freeze in Farmington, Iowa and then worked in various physician offices and for the Clark County Ambulance Service.

She married Neal Acklie April 9, 1972, at St Paul United Church of Christ, in Kahoka, MO., and they were blessed with 2 sons.

After graduating with her nursing degree from Southeastern Community College, PJ worked at Blessing Hospital in the ICU and was Director of Nursing for Lewis Co. Nursing Home. She later took a position at Clark Co. Nursing Home as the Director of Nursing and then Administrator. Prior to retirement, she worked as the Director of Nursing for the The Views assistant living in Cedar Rapids, IA. PJ appreciated all the friendships she made with her coworkers, employees, and residents. If PJ wasn’t working, you could find her and Neal traveling and antiquing or watching her grandkids activities. She put a lot of time and love into crocheting and quilting for her family. PJ was known for her baking, especially her cinnamon rolls and homemade noodles. She loved dancing, especially to her favorite song “Dancing Queen.” She enjoyed being at her home with Neal, and their dog's “Coco” and “Fiona.” She loved visiting people and had a caring heart; her family was important to her, and she looked forward to their get togethers.

PJ is survived by her husband Neal of over 52 years, 2 sons: Jason (Davin) Acklie of Kahoka, MO., Luke (Liz) Acklie of Dunlap, IL., 2 brothers-in-law: Bill Tade of Farmington, IA., Tim Gray of Kahoka, MO., 3 sisters-in-law: Vicki Mitchell of Marshall, MO., Cinda (Terry) James of Kahoka, MO., Sheri Lowery of Farmington, IA., 5 grandchildren: Allison (Zach) Jones, Isiabell (Tanner Elam) Acklie, Ian Acklie, Paige Acklie, Nate Acklie and 1 great grandchild due March 2025. She is also survived by other relatives and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws: Lester and Virginia Acklie, 1 sister: Judy Tade, 1 brother: Richard Lowery, 1 brother-in-law: Joe Mitchell, and 1 sister-in-law: Anita Gray.

Visitation with family present will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2024, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home, Kahoka, MO.

Private Inurnment at a later date.
