OLIVE A. SHAFFER

Olive A. Shaffer, age 99, of Kahoka, MO, died Tuesday, October 19, 2010, at the Clark Co. Nursing Home in Kahoka.

She was born September 7, 1911 at Peaksville, MO, a daughter of Grover and Ella Toops Shaffer. She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents, James and Ann Catherine Ewing Toops and James and Lucy Ann Christy Shaffer; and, other relatives. She is survived by several relatives and many friends.

Some will remember Olive as "Mommie" Shaffer from all of the businesses she either ran or worked in around the Kahoka square. She would be most remembered as the owner of the former HyWay Café which was located on the southwest corner of the square in Kahoka. Prior to her retirement, she operated the Wonder Bar in Edina. When she finally was able to retire, Olive spent the majority of her time quilting, a craft she learned from her mother as a child and doing "fancy" work and crocheting. In addition to her quilts, she created beautiful afghans, crocheted baby quilts, embroidered pillowcases and doilies, each a masterpiece in its own right. Her first love was her quilting and she also enjoyed her flowers. Recently, she came to find the greatest love she ever knew when she gave her life to the Lord and recognized Him as her Savior.

Graveside services were held Friday, October 22, 2010 at 3 p.m. at the Kahoka Cemetery with Pastor Shawn McAfee officiating.
