Nola Ruth Edens, 93, of Keosauqua, Iowa, passed away February 28, 2025, at Keosauqua Health Care Center surrounded by her loving family. Nola was born on September 15, 1931, to Avard and Katherine (Kober) Washburn. One of 8 children, Nola grew up in Kahoka, where she attended the local High School until grade 11. She married Floyd Elmer Edens on November 3, 1951, in Kahoka, and they later divorced in 1973. Nola and Floyd had 4 children, and Nola worked as a laborer and as a custodian with Sheller-Globe before her retirement 30 years ago. Nola loved reading and watching her Westerns, drinking her coffee, and doing her circle word search puzzles. She enjoyed playing Bingo, and arguing with her sister, Aileen whenever possible. She was a big Betty Boop fan and liked her stuffy collection, especially her big Tweety Bird. Nola adored spending time with her children and her numerous grandchildren. She was a woman who loved and was loved by many and will be missed by many more.
There will be a funeral service at 12:00 pm, Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home in Kahoka. Visitation will take place 10:00am - to 12:00pm at the funeral home. Interment at Kahoka Cemetery will follow immediately after the funeral service. Pastor Shawn McAfee will officiate.
Nola was survived by her children; son David Edens of Walnut, Illinois; daughters Linda Smith of Brighton, Illinois, Grace Edens and Shirley Edens, both of Farmington, Iowa; her sister Shirley Asher, from Navarre, Florida; 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers George Frederick Washburn, Richard Washburn, and William Washburn; her sisters Aileen Blaise, Mary Washburn, and Dorothy Sturm; and grandson, Dean Edens; granddaughter Angelena Edens; and daughter-in-law, Donna Edens
Memorials in Nola’s name may be made to: The Walk to End Alzheimer’s or to Amee Wyatt for Nola’s grave marker.
