NANCY JEAN SHELTON

Nancy Jean Shelton, age 53, of Kahoka, MO, died Sunday, October 5, 2014 in Scotland Co. Memorial Hospital in Memphis, MO.

Nancy was born April 3, 1961 in Moline, IL, a daughter of Hugh L. "Sparky" and Betty Ellis Wood.

She was married to Kevin L. Shelton.

Survivors include her children: Gorden Lee (Dawn) Wood of Kahoka, MO, Joseph Allen Shelton of Memphis, MO, John Paul Shelton of Canton, MO and Elizabeth Jean Shelton of Kahoka, MO; four grandchildren: Shannon and Cheyann Hoening, Samantha Laffoon, and Sidney Wood; mother-in-law, Sally Shepherd of Canton, MO; four brothers: Gorden L. Wood, David Wood and Steven (Mary) Wood, all of Kahoka, MO, and, Kevin (Debbie) Wood of Greenbay, WI; a sister, Gaylene Wood of Kahoka, MO; numerous aunts, uncles, great aunts and cousins; and many nieces and nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Hugh L. "Spike" Wood, III; grandchildren: Gorden Lee Wood, III; and unborn baby twins.

Nancy was a 1979 graduate of Clark Co. R-1 High School and attended SCC receiving education in the nursing field. She had worked as a CNA and EMT most of her life. She was known by her friends, family, and co-workers as "Wild Woman Wood".

Nancy grew up in Alexandria and went through the Flood of ‘93 losing everything she owned. Nancy was a former girl scout leader. She never knew a stranger and would give the shirt off of her back to anyone. She was an avid reader, an excellent cook, a wonderful friend, and a proud mother and grandmother. She loved caring for her grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastor Ray Gilbert officiating. Burial followed in the Kahoka Cemetery.
