NANCY JO BRIGGS

Nancy Jo Briggs, age 72, of rural Kahoka, MO, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 in the emergency room of Fort Madison Community Hospital.

She was born July 18, 1942 in Davenport, IA, a daughter of John and Fern Essix Traeger.

On August 18, 1984 she was united in marriage to Vincent L. Briggs at the family home.

Survivors include her husband, Vincent, of the home; two step-sons, Doug Briggs of Wayland, MO and Glen (Donna) Briggs of West Burlington, IA; two step-daughters, Vickie Nolte (Charlie Weldon) of Fort Madison, IA and Laura Eagle of Indianapolis, IN; two step grandchildren, Raven Spight and Caitlyn Metsler; two step great-grandchildren; one sister, Pam Traeger (Dan Zimmerman) of Rosamond, CA; one half brother, Carl Keading of Davenport, IA; a half sister, Linda Keading of Davenport, IA; a sister-in-law, Lois McCollister of Kahoka, MO; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Henry Keading; and sister, Cheryl England.

Nancy graduated from Davenport High School with the class of 1960. She had been employed in the Clark Co. Collectors' office for 25 years when she retired. Following retirement, she was content to stay home, gardening, canning, tending to her flower gardens and mowing her yard. She also loved to sit and watch the humming birds at their feeders and snuggle with her pets. Friends and family were very dear to her and she enjoyed loving and caring for her husband. Everyone was welcomed into her family and she made sure they knew that they were her family. Not only was she a step-mother, but she also became a dear friend.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Rev. Dan Deatrick officiating. Special music included "In The Garden" and "Amazing Grace". Burial followed in the Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton, IL. Pallbearers included Jack Riter, Don Clift, Mike Clark, David Clark, Dale Clark and Steve Brammer.

Friends called at Wilson Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Monday with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Kahoka Senior Center.
