MARY JO BEST LAFFOON

Mary Jo Best Laffoon, age 69, of Holts Summit, MO, formerly of Clark County, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2020 in Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Mary Jo was born March 17, 1950 in Keokuk, Iowa, a daughter of Verne and JoEtta Brown Best.

She was united in marriage to Wayne Laffoon on July 12, 1974 in Kahoka, MO.

Survivors include her husband, of Holts Summit, MO; mother-in-law, Deloris Laffoon of Kahoka; three sons: Mike Laffoon of Montrose, IA, Adam (Michelle) Laffoon of Centertown, MO, and Benjamin (Ann) Laffoon of Dunwoody, GA; eight grandchildren: Joshua Laffoon of Anchorage, AK, Derek (Jessica) Laffoon of Rochester, MN, Samantha Laffoon of Kahoka, MO, Andrew Laffoon, Chloe Hughey and Heidi Hughey all of Centertown, MO, and Tess Laffoon and Aaron Laffoon both of Dunwoody, GA; two brothers: Mark (Cindy) Best of Kirksville, MO, Randy Best of Jefferson City, MO; one sister, Verna (Mike) Garrels of Kahoka, MO; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen (Mike) Lewis of Kahoka, MO and Teresa (Johnnie) Keppel of Montrose, IA; Josh and Derek’s mother, Christa Wiggins and her husband, Mark, whose relationship as family she cherished; as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law, Howard Laffoon; and sister-in-law, Debra Pagel.

Mary Jo was a 1968 graduate of Clark County R-1 High School. She was a twenty-three year State of Missouri employee when she retired at the age of 65 to pursue lifelong dreams of travel. She and Wayne were active members of the Shiloh United Methodist Church in Holts Summit and volunteered many hours towards the beautification of the church and grounds. Together they also volunteered at the food pantry. She held dear the time they spent as foster parents to eleven children over a number of years.

More than anything, Mary Jo enjoyed life! Each day was a new day and special to her. Her family and friends gave her so much joy and her zest and personality will continue to shine in each of them.

A Funeral Service was held Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 11 a.m. at the Shiloh United Methodist Church in Holts Summit with Pastor Rebecca Dunger Peak officiating. Family received friends at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until services at 11.

A visitation was held on Sunday, February 16, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka, MO, the burial followed in the Peaksville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials were suggested to Shiloh United Methodist Church - Food Pantry or Peaksville Cemetery.
