MARION MADISON DUNCAN

Marion Madison Duncan, age 92 of Kahoka, MO, died Saturday, February 21, 2004 in St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL.

He was born at the Duncan homestead near Millersburg, MO on November 21, 1911, a son of Haden and Adelia Bright Duncan.

He married Anne Prouty in 1933 and they were the parents of four sons. On September 8, 1940 he was united in marriage to Gertrude Beard in Kahoka and they were the parents of a daughter.

Survivors include his wife, Gertrude, of Kahoka, MO; two sons, Joe Duncan and his wife, Carole, of Columbia, MO and John Duncan and his wife, Joan, of Ballwin, MO; one daughter, Mary Oelschlaeger and her husband, George, of Rock Island, IL; fourteen grandchildren: David and Kim Duncan, Dan and Nelly Duncan, Doug and Maria Duncan, Don and Blanca Duncan, Joe Duncan, Jr., Ellen Duncan, Jennifer and Brad Gresham, Mary Carter and Anthony Martin, Sherry and Tom Vandergrift, Brian and Kellie Witt, Keenan McClure, Brandon Duncan, Fred and Karol Oelschlaeger and Curtis Oelschlaeger.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Joseph Duncan; two sons, David and Steve Duncan; a stepson, William Jones; and a granddaughter, Heidi Oelschlaeger.

Marion graduated from the last class of Columbia High School in1927 and attended the University of Missouri until his father died and it was necessary that he return to the family farm. For a brief time, he was employed in First Bank Stock Corp. in Miles City, MT, and farmed near Trenton, MO before moving to Kahoka in 1940 where he was the MFA Oil Bulk Plant manager. He was a charter agent for MFA Insurance (Shelter Insurance), having been contracted as an agent before MFA Mutual began doing business on January 1, 1946. He retired on December 31, 1974.

He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka. He was a devoted member of the former Brotherhood of the church and was the last local survivor. He was also a former member of the Kahoka Chamber of Commerce. An avid reader, Marion enjoyed keeping up with local news and current events.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home,

Kahoka, MO with Rev. Kenneth Beckmann officiating. Burial will be in Kahoka Cemetery.

Friends can call after 1 p.m. on Tuesday with family receiving friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at

the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka
