Marciene Dietzman

Marciene Dietzman, age 76, of Kahoka, MO, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2019 in the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, IA.

Marciene was born September 23, 1942 in Keokuk, one of two daughters of Harold Ray and Julia Louise Cox Byrne.

On June 1, 1974 she married John Elmer Dietzman. He preceded her in death on June 27, 1999.

Survivors include her mother, Julia Louise Byrne of Hamilton; a step-son, John Dietzman, Jr. of Wellman, IA; a step-daughter, Jeri Lynn and family; her beloved nieces and nephews and their families: John (Shannon) Helenthal of Keokuk, Julia (Ritchie) McDaniel of Kahoka, Robert (Peggy) Helenthal and Sarah (Todd) Stuecker, all of Hamilton; an aunt, Regina (Dick) Severson of Fifty Lakes, MN; as well as other family members and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her father; her husband; her sister, Sharleen Byrne; and a great niece, Elaina Marie White.

Marciene was a 1962 graduate of Keokuk High School and faithfully attended class reunions and enjoyed catching up with her classmates.

She was a devoted member and former custodian of her church, the Keokuk Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

"Aunty" as she was referred to by many, never had children of her own, but she was a born nurturer. She had worked at several jobs including the Senior Center in Kahoka where she also volunteered delivering meals on wheels, and as a cook at the Clark County Sheriff’s department. The "job" she truly loved was caring for children. Marciene worked for Trudi’s Day Care in Kahoka and always babysat other children through the years. "Aunty" spent many hours on the floor playing games and having fun with children. She also would take them fishing and do other activities joyfully as if they were her own.

She had a loving, simple, caring, sweet spirit and a servant’s heart. She was always putting others first and would do whatever she could to help anyone in need. She was famous for her chocolate chip cookies which were loved by many.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 25, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Keokuk Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Burial followed in the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Keokuk.

Memorials may be made to the family to purchase a head stone with checks payable to Julia McDaniel.
