LINDA KAY PLENGE
Linda Kay Plenge, 59 of Luray, MO, was called home by our Heavenly Father on Monday, March 5, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA following a long and dignified battle with cancer since her diagnosis in 2003.
Linda was born November 3, 1952 in Carthage, IL, the daughter of George and Lois Brewer Tanner. Following her parents' death, she was raised by her aunt and uncle, Ozelma and Charlie Shoup.
On August 31, 1974, Linda married her best friend, Bobby Gene Plenge. She was the most beloved wife of Bobby, of Luray, MO; cherished mother of Gara Ann (Dan) Chapla, of Fulton, MO; and Philip Eugene (Ashley) Plenge of Kahoka, MO; treasured grandmother of Ivy Elizabeth and Luke Daniel Chapla and Braylen August Plenge; adored sister of Gene Tanner of Kahoka, MO, Patty (Bill) Gastorf of Cantrall, IL, Joan (Rex) Roller of Luray, MO, and Judy (Keith) Wheeler of Canton, MO; appreciated daughter-in-law of Elizabeth Plenge of Kahoka, MO; respected sister-in-law of Gary (Pat) Plenge of Kahoka, MO and Darrell (Charlotte) Plenge of Quincy, IL; loved niece to Ozelma Shoup, Albert Brewer and Bonnie Brewer, all of Kahoka, MO and Gladys and Bob Wallingford of Farmington, IA. Linda also had many nieces, nephews, and cousins, including cousin,Danny Shoup, with whom she was raised, who each held a special place in her heart; as well as other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law, August Plenge; two brothers, Gary and Stanton Tanner; two brother-in-laws, Karl and Franklin Plenge; uncles and aunt, Charlie Shoup, Edward Brewer, and Lowell and Marguerite Tanner.
Linda graduated from Clark County High School in 1971 and then from Burlington Beauty Academy. She worked for several beauty shops in town, but was a homemaker for most of her life. She spent ten years as an employee of Fruehauf in Fort Madison,IA.
Linda was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka, MO and Christian Broadcasting Network. She loved going to yard sales and finding bargains, especially for shoes. Linda enjoyed yard work, tending to cattle and cutting wood with her family. However, her grandchildren were her pride and joy.
The Plenge and Tanner families would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to our loved ones and many friends who have reached out over the years with prayers, encouragement, support and love. She will be forever in our hearts.
Memorial services were held Thursday, March 8, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka with Pastor Marie Paterik officiating. Inurnment was in the St. Paul Cemetery.
Visitation was held at Wilson Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Wednesday with family receiving friends from 5-8 p.m.
Memorials were suggested to Clark Co. Local Cancer Fund or St. Luke's Hospice, Cedar Rapids, IA.
