Linda Lou Seamster Gordy, 80, of Arbela, MO, passed peacefully on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, MO.
She was born June 2, 1942, to Omar Forest and Esther Louisa Schmitter Seamster. She graduated from Downing High School in Downing, MO. She married Lowell Nelson Gordy on April 23, 1961, at her family’s home in Scotland County, Missouri and he survives. She was a farm wife and raised four children. For many years, she drove a school bus in the Luray School District and especially loved driving students to field trips.
She completed her career as the Youth Education Assistant in the Clark County Extension Office. She delighted in working with 4-H, beginning as a project leader (including for projects she never dreamed of leading when her children wanted to take projects for which there was no leader), club leader for the Luray Boosters 4-H club, and finally as the YEA. She was inducted into the Missouri 4-H Hall of Fame in 2011.
She was a member of Luray United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years, and presented Bibles to her students as they were confirmed. For many years, she was the designated dressing maker for dinners at the Luray Church and the Granger Methodist Church.
She kept Montadale sheep and registered black Angus cattle for many years, until her illness prevented it. She was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a blood cancer, in 2010, and battled it valiantly for many years. She always said she intended to stick around until there was a cure.
In addition to her husband, Lowell Gordy, Linda is survived by four children and their spouses: Karen Gordy-Panhorst and her husband Jeff, Kevin Gordy and his wife Lea Ann, Kathy Wells and her husband Jim, and Kelly Gordy and his wife Felicia. She’s also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Dustin Gordy and his partner Alexis Hotop, Shelby Bride and her husband Jimmy, Jonathan Panhorst and his partner Mara Beedle, Quentin Wells, Michelle Gordy, Mabel Gordy, Nelson Gordy, and one great-granddaughter, Katie Bride. Her sister Betty Thompson and brother Robert Seamster also survive. She also leaves behind beloved sisters- and brothers-in-law, countless nieces and nephews, and many friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband’s parents, her sister Faye Turner, her grandparents and aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 20th, at the Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home of Kahoka. Pastor Donna Reid will officiate. Interment will follow at the Campground Cemetery in Scotland County, Missouri, within sight of her childhood home. Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 19th at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Clark County 4-H scholarship in her memory, to Sever Memorial Library in Kahoka or to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
