KEVIN E. SPURGEON

Kevin E. Spurgeon, age 53, of Keokuk, IA, died at 4:40 a.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2016 in the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA following a three month battle with cancer.

Kevin was born August 1, 1963 in Keokuk, IA, a son of Glenn "Sonny" and Sarah Lewis Spurgeon.

Survivors include his mother, Sarah Lewis of Gorin, MO; companion, Nancy Kay Ogg of Keokuk, IA; his four children: Melinda Spurgeon and Sarah Spurgeon, both of Rogers, AR, Kevin Brock of Keokuk, IA and Janana Brock of Kalispell, MT; six grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Kenny Spurgeon of Keokuk, IA, Raymond Boyd of Gorin, MO, Jeffrey "Pup" (Andrea) Boyd of Kahoka, MO, and Sarah Vradenburg and Sherry (Art) Wilson, all of Keokuk, IA; aunts and uncles: Joanne (Bill) Briley of Keokuk, IA, Susan (Roger) Jobe of Warsaw, IL, Eugene (Pearl) Spurgeon of Arnold, MO, Bob (Barb) Davis of Alexandria, MO, Lucille Shipe of Warsaw, IL, Anna Wilper of Crystal River, FL and Juanita (Jim) Shelton of Quincy, IL; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Danny Spurgeon and Dexter Cooper.

Kevin attended school in Keokuk. During his lifetime, he worked in construction, landscaping and general labor as well as in demolition with his uncle, Bob Davis. He was baptized and a member of the old First Baptist Church in Wayland and attended Southwest Baptist Fellowship Church in Wayland.

Kevin enjoyed playing pool, watching wrestling and westerns on TV. He was an excellent horseshoe competitor and enjoyed participating in tournaments. He particularly loved listening to Blue's music. Kevin was kind to everyone and a good hearted person. He was known for his big hugs and his generous nature. He would give the shirt off of his back and last dollar to anyone.

Graveside services were held Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Gorin Cemetery, Gorin, MO with Pastor Dan Steinbeck officiating. Recorded music included: "Every Time I Roll The Dice", "Don't Cry For Me", and "When I Get Where I'm Going". Pallbearers were: Kenny Spurgeon, Jeff Boyd, Kevin Brock, Todd Kiester, Kenny Irvin and Raymond Boyd.

Family received friends Saturday from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka and then processed to the cemetery.

Memorials may be made to his mother, Sarah Lewis, Rt. 1 - Box 38AA, Gorin, or may be left at or mailed to Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka.
