JOY BELL STEVENSON

Joy B. Stevenson, 73, formerly of Alexandria, lately of Kahoka, MO, died Monday, May 20, 2013 at Keokuk Area Hospital after a long illness.

Joy was born June 24, 1939 in Keokuk, IA, to Hugh L. Wood and Colleen E. Steele Wood of Alexandria, MO.

She married William P. Stevenson November 12, 1962 in Kahoka, MO.

She is survived by her husband, Bill, three daughters, Susie Varner of Keokuk, IA, Jonann Byrn of Argyle, IA, Billie Stevenson of Kahoka, MO, and a son, Michael Stevenson of Fort Madison, IA; five grandchildren: Mathias Byrn, Josh Stevenson, Gerret Ewart and sisters Amanda and Debbie, numerous great grandchildren, including Olivia Stevenson, and another great-grandchild yet to come, as well as many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews (Gordon, David, Steven, Kevin and Gaileen Wood, and Nancy Wood Shelton), dear friends, and cherished relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Hugh L. Wood II ("Sparky"), and a nephew, Hugh L. Wood III ("Spike").

She was a machine operator at Sheller Globe and a proud member of the Local #444 Rubber Worker's Union for thirty years until her retirement in 2004, but her passion and true life's work was her husband, her children, and her home.

Her wish was to be cremated. A memorial service was held Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka, with Rev. Bill Hauser officiating.

Memorials in her memory were suggested to the charity of the giver's choice.
