John Henry Brookhart, 69, of Kahoka, passed away at 12:15 am on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal.

He was born on September 26, 1954, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of the late Charles Otis & Vera F. (Welker) Brookhart. John Henry attended and graduated from Clark County R1 School District with the class of 1972. He married Carol Sue McCoy on August 5, 1978, at the First Baptist Church of Louisiana, Missouri and she preceded him in death on August 14, 2016.

John Henry was passionate about farming from a very early age. It was his lifelong ambition. From tending to the fields to caring for the cows, he loved it all. In his earlier years, he used to enjoy motorcycle trips with his friend; John Mohr. Card games were a favorite past time of John Henrys; those games included Pitch and Euchre. He enjoyed watching sports, including football and baseball. Later on in life, one of his favorite activities was picking up his granddaughters, Piper first, then Eloise from pre-school every day to drop off at daycare. John Henry’s devotion to the Lord was evident during his lifetime, his childhood church was the South Wyaconda Baptist Church and later Cedar Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He then became a member of the Southern Baptist Fellowship Church in Wayland. John Henry served with the Gideons, helping to distribute bibles and the word of God. He had also served as a jail minister for the Gideons. You could always count on John Henry supporting his family with whatever project they may have had, whether it was an FFA project or a sporting event, John Henry would come out to support them. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his sons; Dr. Jacob (Liz) Brookhart of Kahoka, Joshua (Ashley) Brookhart of Colona, Illinois, a daughter; Leah (Trae) Sayre of Milan, a brother; Dr.Gary (Caring) Brookhart of Durham, North Carolina, a sister; Mariann (John) Bullerd of Hallsville, grandchildren; Amber Lee & Kendra Allis Sayre, Piper Nicole & Eloise Kate Brookhart, Emmie Sue Brookhart and by a forthcoming and expected granddaughter; Anna Kay Brookhart and by several nieces, cousins and friends.
