Kahoka

Janice L. Justice, age 76, of Kahoka, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois, surrounded by the love of her family.

Janice was born on November 29, 1949, in Keokuk, Iowa, to Charles and Marjorie (Washburn) Chewning. On September 17, 1977, she was united in marriage to Rick Justice in Keokuk, Iowa, he survives.

A woman of strong Catholic faith, Janice saw her life’s work as a vocation as much as a profession. She chose to fulfill this calling as an educator within the local Catholic school system, where she taught English and Religion for many years. Through her teaching, Janice sought not only academic excellence, but also spiritual growth and compassion. She believed firmly in the God-given dignity and potential of every student she encountered and worked tirelessly to help each one discover and develop their unique talents.

Janice was known as a gifted teacher, a dedicated mentor, and a steady leader. She consistently went beyond what was required, offering her time, talent, and guidance generously. Whether in the classroom, through extracurricular activities, or by quiet encouragement, she left an indelible mark on countless lives. Her commitment to Catholic education was unwavering, and her legacy lives on in the many students she inspired. Above all, Janice treasured her family. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother, and a proud grandmother. Her faith guided her relationships, her work, and her service to others, and she lived each day with grace, humility, and purpose.

In addition to her husband Rick of 48 years, Janice is survived by her son, Jeremiah (Jessica) Justice of Kahoka, Missouri; her beloved granddaughter, Hali Justice; her mother-in-law, Dolores Justice of Kahoka; her brother- and sister-in-law, Randy (Dana) Justice of Kahoka; her aunt, Phyllis Chewning of St. Louis, Missouri; nieces and nephew, Darci Shannon, Dasan and Kristy Justice; six great-nieces and nephews; special friends Robin McKray, Kathy Ferguson, Patty Swank, and Mary McMurray; cousins; and many former students. She was preceded in death by her parents and her father-in-law, Kenneth Justice.

Graveside services will be held Friday, January 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Sand Cemetery in St. Francisville, Missouri, with Father Hai Dinh officiating. Visitation with family present will be held at Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Memorials in Janice’s honor are suggested to the family.
