H L Plenge, 47, of Kahoka, Missouri, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Thursday, March 26, 2026, in Keokuk, Iowa.
H L was born on April 1, 1978, in Quincy, IL., to Hal Plenge and Vicki (Morgan) Plenge. He was a 1996 graduate of Clark County High School. During his time at Clark County R-1 he was largely involved in the music arts, receiving many accolades for his talents in band and choir. H L was married to Vina (Lucas) Hale, and 2 children were born to this union, Taylan and Mikayla Plenge. He later was united in marriage to Rachel Troll Plenge on October 10, 2010, in Myrtle Beach, SC., and to this union 2 more children were born Rylen and Adalyn Plenge.
H L attended confirmation classes and was confirmed into the St Paul United Church of Christ in 1993. In 2014 he became the Church Organist and sang in the church choir ever since he was a little boy. He had several hobbies, but his favorites were geodes, computers, tinkering to see what made things tick, and fast cars. He was a “Jack of All Trades”.
H L is known by many as a “musical force” or a “true singer”. H L had a unique ability to connect with people, turning every performance he did into an intimate gathering of friends. Whether he was lead singer in the choir, playing a soulful piece on the saxophone, organ or piano, his music served as a source of comfort, inspiration, joy, and peace to many countless people.
H L is known for his ability to light up any room with his voice, his jokes, and humor. He was a helpful, loving, and generous soul to all. He will be missed by his family and the many people he touched in the community.
H L is survived by his wife Rachel, his mother Vicki (Bill) Pitford of Montrose, IA., his children Taylan Plenge, Rylen Plenge and Adalyn Plenge all of Kahoka, MO., Mikayla (Mason) Hartman of Burlington, IA., a grandson Bennett Hartman, his foster children Eb and Zerelda, his siblings Samuel Plenge of Keokuk, IA., Andrew (Misty) Plenge of Montrose, IA., Anna (Kelly) Yates of Kahoka, MO., Sister-in-laws April (Tony) Vargus of Urbandale, IA., Crystal (David Patin) Troll of Asheville, NC., step siblings, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his Father Hal Plenge on 1-15-2025, his in-laws, grandparents and other relatives.
Funeral Services for H L Plenge will be held Monday, April 20, 2026, at 10:00 am at the St Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka. Pastor Dan Moore will officiate. Burial will follow at the St. Paul Cemetery, Kahoka, MO. Visitation with family present will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2026, from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at the Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home Kahoka, MO.
Memorial contributions in memory of H L are to his Children’s Education Fund, St Paul Church, and Clark Co R-1 Music Dept. all causes close to his heart and will be directed by the family.
