Helen Mae Owen, 87, of Kahoka, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026, peacefully at Knox County Nursing Home, in Edina, under the loving care of her family.
Helen was born on April 23, 1938, in Williamstown, Missouri to Ernest Rolf and Georda Orla (Dillinger) Lasswell. On November 7, 1964, she was united in marriage to Robert E Owen, in Williamstown, Missouri. They were blessed with 53 years together. Robert preceded her in death on February 13, 2018.
She is survived by one daughter, Carla (Thomas) Deveny of Edina, MO; four grandchildren: Lauren Alexander of Kirksville, MO, Quinton Alexander of Kirksville, MO, Alex Owen of Kahoka, Mo, and Andrea (Cameron) Rudd of Montrose, IA; six great-grandchildren: Wyatt Owen, Haleigh Hill, Braxton Hill, Aubrey Rudd, Lincoln Rudd and Liam Rudd; one brother, David Lasswell of Kirksville, MO, sisters-in-law: Joyce Lasswell of Salem, IA and Karen Lasswell of LaBelle, MO, as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, her in-laws Earl and Fern (Swanson) Owen, her son Richard E. “Rick” Owen; three brothers Robert Lasswell, James Lasswell, Thomas Lasswell, two brothers in infancy; two sisters-in-law, Mary Cochenour and Linda Owen; two brothers-in-law Ross Cochenour, William Owen, one nephew Bobby Cochenour, and one great great niece Rubee Justice.
Helen graduated from LaBelle High School in 1956 and later from Burlington Beauty Academy. She owned and operated her salon for more than fifty years. Helen found joy in baking, especially pies for her family. She enjoyed reading, listening to country music, watching the St. Louis Cardinals and nurturing her flower gardens. She was a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star in Kahoka.
Helen enjoyed the excitement and variety of travel. Her numerous foreign destinations included: Spain, France, Italy, Aruba, Canada, Mexico and Bermuda. Helen’s domestic adventures included: Florida, New Orleans, Lake Tahoe, Las Vegas and New York City where she loved attending Broadway Shows. She visited the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN and witnessed the Kentucky Derby in Louisville, KY. Above all her greatest joy was the time spent with all of her family and friends.
Funeral Services for Helen Mae Owen will be held Friday, April 24, 2026, at 11:00 am at Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home, Kahoka, MO, with burial at the Kahoka Cemetery. Pastor Shawn McAfee will officiate. Visitation with family present will be held at the Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home, Friday, April 24, 2026, from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am. Memorials in memory of Helen are suggested to Hospice Compassus Living Foundation.
