GLADYS DORSEY
Gladys Dorsey, age 97, of Kahoka, MO, died Friday, June 16, 2006, at the Clark Co. Nursing Home in Kahoka.
She was born June 24, 1908 at Basco, IL, a daughter of Addison "Mac" and Nora Margaret Gehin O'Brien.
She married Dwight Hays Dorsey who preceded her in death on May 27, 1967.
Survivors include a step-daughter, Delores Cannon and her husband, Edwin, of Kahoka, MO; nieces and nephews and their families: Lucille Bartels and Viola Nevels, both of Bellville, WI, Ralph O'Brien of San Bernandino, CA, Keith O'Brien of Oakton, VA, Kathleen O'Brien of Woodridge, VA, Maureen Biggs of Omaha, NE, Esther Kerr of Luray, MO, Dorothy Toops of Kahoka, MO, and Mary O'Brien of Arbela, MO; also several step-grandchildren and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Morris, Cornelius, and Eddie O'Brien; a sister, Emily Viney; and two nephews, Maurice and Richard O'Brien.
Gladys graduated from Granger High School and then earned her Bachelor of Science and Master's Degrees from Northeast Missouri State Teacher's College at Kirksville. She was an elementary teacher in Clark County, MO, for many years and a member of the Missouri and Clark Co. Retired Teachers.
She was a faithful member of the Kahoka United Methodist Church and very involved in the church life, including the United Methodist Women and a former Sunday School teacher. She had also been involved in several garden clubs and active in the Clark County Republican Committee and a nursing home volunteer for many years.
Although Gladys never had any children of her own, she dearly loved them and especially making birthdays special. She also loved flowers and for many years took care of the flowers around the city park.
Funeral services are Monday, June 19, 2006, at 10 a.m. at the Kahoka United Methodist Church with burial following in the Combs Cemetery at Luray, MO.
Friends can call at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka after 10 a.m. Sunday with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m.
Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to the Kahoka United Methodist Church, Combs Cemetery or the Clark Co. Nursing Home Activity Fund.
