GARY D. CLEM

Gary D. Clem, age 63, of rural Kahoka, MO, passed away Monday, July 19, 2010 in Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL, following a battle with cancer.

He was born April 4, 1947 at Monroe City, MO, the son of Victor and Blanche Yager Clem.

Gary graduated from Monroe City High School where he played Varsity Football. He attended Central Missouri State College at Warrensburg on a golf scholarship. It was then that he married Harriet McDannold and together they had two sons, Brad and Bryan. On August 25, 1991, he was united in marriage to Mary Dunlap Nance.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, of Kahoka; two sons and their families, Brad (Tammy) Clem of Olathe, Kansas and Bryan (Lena) Clem of Phoenix, AZ; three step-sons: Earl (Carrie) Nance, Darrel (Ronda) Nance and Gary Nance, all of Kahoka, MO; six grandchildren: Zachary Clem of Olathe, KS, Todd (Allison) Nance of Springfield, MO, Stephanie Nance of Grainsville, MO, Jacob (Courtney) Nance of Kahoka, MO, Jessica Nance of Maryville, MO and Cody Nance of Kahoka, MO; two great-grandchildren, Cale and Alexys Nance of Kahoka, MO; a sister, Janice (Jack) Morris of Monroe City, MO; as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gary was in personnel management with different companies in the Carolinas until returning to his home state of Missouri to be with his mother. He moved to Kahoka following his marriage. Gary was a talented trumpet player who performed in various places and even made a recording. He was very proud to have served in the Air Force Reserves 4 years and the Army Reserves for 2 years as an M.P. His greatest joy came from being with his grandchildren and their families.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 22, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with burial following in the Kahoka Cemetery.

Memorials were suggested to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or his grandchildren's education fun.
