Evelyn L. O’Day, age 67, of Kahoka, MO, passed away unexpectedly early Tuesday morning, July 21, 2020 at her home.

Evelyn was born February 12, 1953 in Keokuk, IA, a daughter of Victor E. and Mary Briley Young.

She was married to Gary O’Day and they were the parents of five daughters: Patricia, Tammi, Jeanne, Rita and Lisa.

Survivors include her daughters: Patricia (Danny) Trone and Tammi (Roger) Hurt of Kahoka, Jeanne (Robbie) Springer of St. Francisville, Rita Brunk of Kahoka, and Lisa O’Day of Cedar Rapids; one brother: William (Brenda) Young of Kahoka; four sisters, Rubie "Dodie" Simmons, Ava Carter, Dianna Sommers Toben and Rita (Vaughn) Barry, all of Kahoka; twenty grandchildren: Clinton Davis, Rebecca Davis, Kayla (Matt) Davis, Amanda Trone (Kycen Gillette) and Trevor (Ashley) Hurt, all of Kahoka, Joni (Bud) Mortimer of Arapahoe, WY, Ryan (Leona) Hurt of Ottumwa, Ashley Novak of Mt. Pleasant, Colton Hurt of West Point, Heather (Tim) Keithly of Burlington, Miranda (Jakoby) Justice, Alex O’Day (Emily Irvin) all of Kahoka, Tiffani O’Day (Josh Acklie) of Hamilton, Courtney Springer and Vanessa Springer of St. Francisville, Jordan Brunk (James Cain) of Kahoka, Dreston Brunk (Leah Larson) of Des Moines, Nevaeh Stewart of Kahoka and Xaria and Xarienne O’Day, both of Cedar Rapids;

eighteen great grandchildren: Deegan Brown, Scarlette Gillette, Nova Hurt, Javelin Hurt, Ryan Hurt, Blake Hurt, Michael Huffman, Brooklyn Beavers, Matthew Mortimer, Jaxon Novak, Vincent Novak, Owen Hurt, Landon and Lydia Keithly, Isabella Meyers, Mason O’Day, Jamedan Cain, and Mayci Brunk; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor E. and Mary Briley Young; her step-fathers, Clifton Helm and Richard Gregory; a brother, Victor Young, Jr.; three sisters: Joan Hayden, Sandra Ringenburg, and Vickie Burks; brothers-in-law: Garry Simmons, Floyd Sommers, Steve Toben, Jeff LeMaster, Bill Hayden, and William Ringenburg; and, a nephew, Larry Hayden.

Evelyn was a 1971 graduate of Clark Co. R-1 High School. She had worked at the former Best’s Boarding Home, then in Home Health Care, and retired from the Clark Co. Nursing Home.

Evelyn enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, playing bingo, watching old westerns and doing scratch offs. She was a huge Elvis Presley fan and a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Her life was spent caring for others before herself and she dearly loved her grandchildren and was generous with them and anyone else that had a need.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 24, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastor Eric Krueger officiating. Burial will follow in the Chambersburg Cemetery.

Friends may call at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka after 9 a.m. Thursday with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m.
