Eloise B. Mathies, age 90, of Kahoka, MO, died Sunday, December 7, 2003 at the Clark Co. Nursing Home in Kahoka.

She was born July 13, 1913 at Peaksville, MO, a daughter of Bert O. and Lottie Ponte Ball.

On October 15, 1935, she was united in marriage to Raymond J. Mathies at Kahoka and they were the parents of a son, Raymond Lee. Her husband preceded her in death on May 27, 1969.

Survivors include her son, Raymond Lee Mathies and his wife, Dorthea, of Kahoka, MO; three grandsons, Rick and Steven Mathies, both of Kahoka, MO, and Doug Mathies and his wife, Sherry, of Atlantic Beach, FL; one great grandson, Aaron Mathies of Paris Island, SC; one great granddaughter, Jamie Wilkerson of Atlantic Beach, FL; two sisters-in-law, Reesa Vanraemdonk and Letha Wessel, both of Kewanee, IL; several nieces and nephews,including Adrian Ball and his wife, Betty, of Kewanee, IL; as well as cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and, four brothers, Eugene, Michael, Lee, and Burnace Ball.

Eloise graduated from Revere High School and in her early years was employed at the Revere Drug Store. Eloise also had a special love for children and she and Raymond were employed together for several years as custodians at the Revere School. She later started caring for children, and when she was no longer able to do so, provided care for over 50 children.

Eloise became a member of the Peaksville Christian Church in 1925 and remained a faithful member until moving to Kahoka and changing her membership to the Kahoka Christian Church in 1981. While at Peaksville, she was Sunday School treasurer for many years and worked with the children from nursery to mid-teens. She was also Sunday School pianist and assistant church pianist.

She loved raising roses and crocheting, but her greatest love was children and her family.

Funeral were held Tuesday, December 9, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastor Herb Doty officiating. Mrs. Joan Ball was pianist with special selection,"Beyond the Sunset".

Pallbearers were Leroy Christy, Jim Gardner, Gale Gray, George Gilbert, Ray Gilbert, and Roy Gilbert.

Burial was in Peaksville Cemetery.

Visitation was held after noon on Monday with family receiving friends 6-8 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home.

Memorials were suggested to the Clark Co. Nursing Home Activity Fund
