ELLA MARIE WIRSIG

Ella Marie Wirsig, age 66, of Kahoka, MO, died with her family surrounding her on Tuesday evening, June 18, 2019 in Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

Ella was born January 13, 1953 in Quincy, a daughter of Ivan and Flossie Kennedy.

She graduated from Northeast Missouri State University at Kirksville and for the past 42 years had been a communication arts teacher in the Clark Co. R-1 School District. It was there that she met her husband, Greg. They were married on August 17, 1984 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka.

Survivors include her husband, Greg, of the home; one daughter, Kasey (Josh) Kirchner of Kahoka; her mother-in-law, Bettye Wirsig of Keokuk; one brother, Gene (Dixie) Kennedy of LaGrange; a sister, Sandie (Howard) Kirchner of Canton; also three nephews and one niece.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law, Vernon Wirsig; and a niece, Clarissa Greene.

Ella was a member of the First Baptist Church in Keokuk. She had enjoyed cooking, doing cross stitch, and working word puzzles until her health began to decline.

During her 42 year career, she was able to influence thousands of young adults through her love for teaching and her genuine concern for each of them. She loved what she was doing until the very end and it was that love that was a driving force in her life when others might have let their physical limitations take over. She cherished her family and her husband and daughter meant the world to her.

Private graveside services for Ella were held Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 10 a.m. in the Kahoka Cemetery. Officiating was Pastor Timothy Ayers with Eulogy given by Mrs. Kasey Kirchner.

Special music "Softly and Tenderly" was provided by Kasey Kirchner and Coleen Watson accompanied by Roger Watson on the guitar.

Her family requests no flowers, however, if you are inclined to do so, memorials may be made in her memory to either the Salvation Army in Keokuk or the Ella Wirsig Memorial Fund which is being established to meet the needs of children within the Clark Co. R-1 School District in the form of classroom supplies, clothing needs or other emergencies.
