Kathryn Elizabeth "Biddy" Wells, age 93, of Kahoka, formerly of Revere, died Monday,
October 22, 2012 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City.
"Biddy" was born June 26, 1919 in Peaksville, a daughter of Maurice and Frances Davis Gardner.
She married Eston W. Wells on September 30, 1936 in Kahoka. He preceded her in death on May 27, 2001.
Survivors include two daughters, Marian (Mrs. Bill) Hufford, of Revere, MO, and Waverly (Mrs. Paul) Wood of Purdy, MO; four grandchildren: Alan (Pam) Hufford of Revere, MO, Denise (Mrs. Paul) Rairden of Montrose, IA, Darrin (Lenni) Wood of Purdy, MO, and Darla (Mrs. David) Marion of Bella Vista, AR; nine great-grandchildren: Josh Hufford (Teresa Banes) of Columbia, MO, Heather (Mrs. Andrew) Ayer of Wyaconda, MO, Jordan Hufford of Revere, MO, Isaac Rairden, Olivia Rairden and Emilee Rairden of Montrose, IA, Tori Wood, Elizabeth Arnold, and Kylie Wood, all of Purdy, MO; two great-great grandchildren, Kathryn and Kinsey Ayer; as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a great-granddaughter, two sisters, Agnes Calvert and Ruby Edlen, and two brothers, Richard and Maurice Lee Gardner.
"Biddy" attended school in Revere. She and Eston owned and operated the Revere Locker Plant for many years and later she worked for the Clark Co. Nursing Home.
She was the oldest member of the Peaksville Christian Church and former Sunday School teacher. She was active until her last week, serving on the Clark Co. OATS board, attending the Revere Community Center coffees, playing cards at the Senior Housing, and could be ready in a moments notice to go when asked. She truly loved life, visiting, and fellowship with her many family and friends. She enjoyed church and school activities and her grandchildren. She particularly liked it when churches would come to the nursing home with children. In earlier years she and Eston loved to fish and camp.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 26, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the Peaksville Christian Church with Pastors Shawn McAfee and Herb Doty officiating. Josh Justice was pianist with congregational hymns "In The Garden" and "How Great Thou Art".
Pallbearers were Alan Hufford, Darrin Wood, Josh Hufford, Isaac Rairden, Paul Rairden and Jordan Hufford.
Burial was in the Revere Cemetery.
Visitation was held at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka after 9 a.m. Thursday with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m.
Memorials were suggested to the Peaksville Church or the Revere Cemetery.
