ELDRED L. "CHUB" HERRING

Eldred L. "Chub" Herring, age 90, of Kahoka, MO, died Saturday, January 24, 2004 in

Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

He was born August 30, 1913 at Luray, MO, a son of Lewis Albert and Ethel Billings Herring.

On March 12, 1935, he was united in marriage to Estelle E. Hopp at Luray. She preceded him in death on December 27, 2002.

Survivors include two daughters, Mavis Nelsen and her husband, Jerry, of Houston, AK, and Paula Fox and her husband, Kevin, of Canton, MO; eight grandchildren: Charles Nelsen and his wife, Connie, of Kahoka, MO, Dawn Shirar of Martinas, CA, Yvonne Harper of Hale, MO, Mark Herring of Vacaville, CA, Joanne Collier and her husband, Chuck, of Wasilla, AK, Amanda Fox of Canton, MO and her fiancé, Colin McCreedy of Maryville, MO, Misti Herring of Fairbanks, AK, and Cindi Beth Robertson and her husband, Brian, of Park City, UT; 10 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; a sister, Erma Sellers and her husband, Elmer, of Mt. Sterling, IA; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Betty Turnbow of Memphis, MO, Norma Bogener and Virginia Hopp of Kahoka, MO, Claris Kraus and her husband, Karl, and Wayne Eggleston, all of Memphis, MO, and Calvin Kraus of Arbela, MO; also many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including a special friend of the family, Mary McCleod of Fort Collins, CO.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dallas Herring; four brothers, Ebert, Lewis,Jr., Orville, and Emerson Herring; and, two sisters, Madeline Herring in infancy and Ruth Eggleston.

"Chub" lived most of his life in Clark County, MO with the exception of a short period when he lived in California working as a mechanic on Brunswick Bowling Machines. Missing life on a farm, he returned to Clark County to farm and also sold O's Gold Seed Corn. In addition, he also did various side jobs including construction and mechanical work. At one time he had owned a DX filling station near the Courthouse in Kahoka and later had worked for Bakers Quarry. After retiring, he never lost his love for the land and was well known for growing a large garden.

He was of the Baptist faith. "Chub" was a member of the Clark Co. Moose Lodge # 1432, where he was recognized as "Moose of the Year" having held the offices of Trustee, Prelate, and Treasurer. He was also active as a bingo volunteer for over 12 years. In earlier days, he was well known for the many square dances that he called.

Funeral services are Tuesday, January 27, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Dr. David Castrodale officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery.

Friends can call at Wilson Funeral Home after noon on Monday with Moose Services being conducted at 6:30 p.m.by Clark Co. Moose Lodge # 1432 with family receiving friends following until 9 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Bethlehem Cemetery.
