Dorothy I. Kirchner, age 91, of Kahoka, MO, died Tuesday, July 9, 2013, in Keokuk Area Hospital, Keokuk, IA.

Dorothy was born October 21, 1921 at Gregory Landing, MO, a daughter of Ed and Elsie Ort Otte.

She married Lester C. Kirchner on October 29, 1941 at St. Michael's Parsonage in Kahoka, MO. He preceded her in death on April 18, 2005.

Survivors include two sons, Gary and Gretchen Kirchner and Kent and Rhonda Kirchner, all of Kahoka, MO; two daughters, Violet and Jerome Hattemar of Quincy, IL and Connie and Don French of Aurora, CO; sixteen grandchildren: Donna and Tim Derhake, Daniel and Jeannie Hattemar, Patrick and Ronda Kirchner, Dawn and Bill LeMaster, Tassie and Matt Dienst, Leslie and Dr.Santosh Mathews, Dustin Kirchner and fiancée Tiffany Schorr, Matt and Stephene Kirchner, Kassandra and Kevin Crider, Erik and Rachel Kirchner, Brice Hollender, Lisa and Mike Pfannenstiel, Aaron Mathies, Alyson and Zack Fannon, Alanna and Kyle Mickelson, and Anna Kirchner and fiancé, Zech Saavedra; twenty-eight great grandchildren: Jason and Debi Derhake, Andy and Kayla Derhake and Amber Derhake, Katie and Morgan Hattemar, Danielle and Eddie Hodges, Alyx Kirchner, Kim Armstrong, Devan, Josh, Lauren, and Seth LeMaster, Darian and Noah Dienst, Kobi, Ella and Jack Mathews, Hunter and Cole Kirchner, Kevin "KJ" Crider, III, Hailey Freeman, Brinley Hollender, Grayson, Jackson, Ashley and Daniel Pfannenstiel, and Layton and Landyn Fannon; six great-great grandchildren, Gunnar, HarLen, Liam, Isabella, Kyle and Benjamin; two brothers, Chester (Helen) Otte of Hannibal, MO, and Bob (MaryAnn) Otte of Canton, MO; one sister, Evelyn Uhlmeyer of Kahoka, MO; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Otte of Kahoka, MO and Hilda Schutte of Macomb, IL; special angel, Connie Sue Kirchner of Kahoka, MO; as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Lester E. "Gene" Kirchner; a brother, Junior Otte; sister, Irene and husband, Roy Smith; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, John Uhlmeyer, Ed Schutte, Howard and Lorene Kirchner and Ida Mae and Paul Stutz.

Dorothy attended the Lonestar School. She was a member of St. Martha's Church in Wayland, MO and of the Altar Society. She had been a leader of the Termite 4-H Club and a member of the County Extension Board. She was both secretary and treasurer of the Zion Cemetery.

Dorothy worked side by side with Lester taking care of the family farm while maintaining her household and caring for her children. She loved mowing her yard and gardening. She also loved to do craftwork and each of her grandchildren were blessed with one of her handmade afghans or "Africans" as she called them. Deer hunting season was special as was her homemade cinnamon rolls she made for opening weekend. Her family was the most important thing in her life, second only to her faith, and they were her pride and joy. She looked forward to each Saturday morning when coffee club was held at her house for her children and grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. Martha's Catholic Church in Wayland with Father Boniface officiating. Burial was in the Kahoka Cemetery.

Visitation was held at Wilson Funeral Home in after 9 a.m. Friday with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. followed by the Rosary.

Memorials were suggested to the St. Martha's Altar Society or Clark Co. Local Cancer Fund.Watch Video Tribute
