DOROTHY EVANS

Dorothy Evans, age 95, a long-time resident of Quincy, IL, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Baylor Medical Center in Grapevine, TX.

The daughter of Reamor Vernon and May Dorothy (Bricker) Evans, she was born August 24, 1919 in Ashton, MO.

Dorothy attended grade school in Luray, MO. She attended the first two years of High School at Granger and the last two years at Luray. She graduated in June of 1937. She knew she always wanted to be a teacher. She began teaching in one room school houses. She started working on her college degree at the State Teacher College in Kirksville, MO, in 1937. By going to summer school, spring terms, and correspondence courses she completed her degree in 1947.

Ms. Evans taught school for 51 years, 41 of those years were in the Quincy School System. She started at Franklin then moved to Dewey and spent 17 years team teaching with Mr. Keith Kessler in Learning Disabilities. In 1973 she transferred to Barrian to teach 3rd through 5th grades, and in 1983 taught at Adams school. She retired in June of 1988.

For several years she did testing for the Quincy School System. Then she volunteered for the Quincy Museum giving tours. Ms. Evans was a long-time member of the Vermont Street United Methodist Church in Quincy,

Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Charlie Evans and R. O. Evans; a sister, Jean P. Keller; and a nephew, Terry Evans.

Survivors include two sister-in-laws, Mildred Evans of Kingwood, TX and Merle and Norman Patton of Trophy Club, TX. Also surviving are a nephew and five nieces: Scott and Rosana Evans of Grapevine, TX, Emily and John Bailey of Arlington, TX, Colleen and Dan Davis of Granite Bay, CA,, Dorothy Jean and Tom Edmondson of Goreville, IL, Darla Evans of Trophy Club, TX, and Karen and Delbert Head of Kingwood, TX.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home with Pastor Barb Hagerla officiating. Burial followed in the Kahoka Cemetery.

Family received friends from 1 p.m. until time of services. Memorials are suggested to the Vermont Street United Methodist Church or the Kahoka Cemetery.
