DONALD B. SMELTSER

Donald B. Smeltser, age 88, of Wayland, MO, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2015 at his home.

Don was born July 1, 1927 in Alexandria, MO, a son of Bert Baptist and Mabel Simmons Smeltser.

On April 17, 1952 he was united in marriage to Julie D. Pfeiferling at the Methodist Church in Warsaw, IL.

Survivors include his wife, Julie, of the home; two sons, Mark D. Smeltser of Keokuk, IA and Michael E. Smeltser of the home; two daughters, Donna (Doug) Jones of Kahoka, MO and Dee Dee (Don) Dupy of Keokuk, IA; two brothers, Dallas (Barb) Smeltser of Alexandria, MO and Albert Smeltser of Hamilton, IL; nine grandchildren and their families: Scott (Stefanie) Smeltser, Joseph and Jonathan of Denver, IA, Samuel Smeltser, Zoey and Sophia of Keokuk, IA, Shane Smeltser (fiancé Rayna) and Essance of Wayland, MO, Ashlee (Kyle) Evans, Chloe and Ellie of Urich, MO, Tanya Otte, Blaine, Brice and Bailey of Palmyra, MO, Seth Elder of Kansas City, MO, BreAnn Jones of Wayland, MO, and Keely Smeltser and Kelsey Dupy of Keokuk, IA; brothers-in law and sisters- in-law: Joetta Ruffcorn of Warsaw, IL; Janet (Kenny) Frey of Norwalk, IA; Fred (Betty) Pfeiferling of Warsaw, IL and Wanita Smeltser of Wayland, MO; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Matthew on August 30, 2010; and brothers and sister: Bill Smeltser, Jim Smeltser, Ed Smeltser, Ruth Reynolds and Floyd Smeltser.

Don spent nine years serving our country, first in the U. S. Navy and then in the U. S. Army. He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean conflict. Don was formerly a member of the American Legion.

He was a 25 year employee of Keokuk Steel Castings and had been a barber for 60 years. He loved to visit with his customers and his many friends. Don attended the Wayland United Methodist Church. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 23, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home with Pastor Barb Hagerla officiating. Special music was "Amazing Grace" recorded by Bud Eder. Pallbearers were: Scott Smeltser, Sam Smeltser, Shane Smeltser, Seth Elder, Doug Jones, and Don Dupy. Burial with military rites followed in the Frazee Cemetery.

Friends called at Wilson Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Friday with family receiving friends from 12:30 p.m. until time of services.
