DONALD E. OILAR
Donald Eugene Oilar, age 63, of Kahoka, MO, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2005 at his home.
He was born June 4, 1941 in Clark County, Missouri, a son of George A. and Geneva Rigg Oilar.
On September 21, 1969, Don was united in marriage to Donna Morris in Van Buren Co., IA. He and Donna lived their entire married life in Clark County, the past 29 years on the farm where his paternal grandmother was born. This farm was a very special place, one where he and Donna raised their children and where he departed this life with family and friends at his side.
Survivors include his wife, Donna, of Kahoka, MO; his father, George A. Oilar of Kahoka, MO; three sons, David and Daniel, both of the home, Daniel's special friend, Michelle Painter of LaHarpe, IL, and Darren and his wife, Joyce, of Farmington, IA; grandson, Jacob Eugene, of Farmington, IA; two brothers, Roland Oilar and his wife, Francie, of Kahoka, MO, and Robert Oilar of Revere, MO; a sister, Wilma Kerr and her husband, Charles "Chuck" of Kahoka, MO; brother-in-law, Stephen Morris and his wife, Tove, of Mulvane, KS; two aunts, Emma Smith of Luray, MO and Veva Oilar of Anson, MO; special friends, Ellen and Joanne Aylward, both of Memphis, MO; nieces and nephews, each of whom he loved dearly; as well as other relatives.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dannette Lee; his mother; two brothers, Eston and Edward; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Helen and Donald Morris; maternal and paternal grandparents; sister-in-law, Darlene Oilar; and a niece, Laurie Ann Oilar.
Don graduated from Kahoka High School in 1959. He was a decorated Army veteran, serving in Viet Nam. He had been confirmed into the membership of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka.
Don's greatest joy and what he loved most in life was his family. On December 22, 2004 Don received his greatest Christmas gift in the birth of his first grandchild, Jacob Eugene. Jacob and Don had developed a very special bond in a very short period of time and they had a ton of "secrets" that only they shared. He enjoyed helping Ellen and Donna with their catering business and was a self proclaimed "professional potato peeler". Don also liked to hunt and fish and he dearly loved playing cards. He loved reminiscing with Jack Edlen about all of the escapades of the Oilar boys and the Edlen boys from years past and living on the "Ridge". Both wondered how they had survived as long as they did.
Funeral services were Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Rev. Kenneth Beckmann officiating. Burial was in St. Paul Church Cemetery, rural Kahoka.
Memorials were suggested to Blessing Hospice, Clark Co. Local Cancer Fund, or donor's choice.
