DELORA D. GARDNER

Delora D. Gardner age 81, formerly of Kahoka, MO, died Saturday, November 14, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, IA.

She was born August 3, 1934, at Gorin, MO, a daughter of Lloyd and Maggie Golliher Alderton.

Delora was married to Donald Richard Gardner on October 25, 1953 at the First Baptist Church in Kahoka. He preceded her in death on April 30, 1998.

Survivors include her children and their families: two sons, Dan Gardner of Grimes, IA and Scott (Angie) Gardner of Des Moines, IA; two daughters, Terry (Mike) Reed of Grimes, IA and Pat (Mike) Inman of Ottumwa, IA; nine grandchildren: Damien (Kelly) Verwers of Desoto, IA, Valorie (David) Peitzman of Grimes, IA, Matthew (Leah) Inman of Faribault, MN, James Inman of Fargo, ND, Brian (Denise) Inman of Bloomfield, IA, Katlynd Reed of Grimes, IA, and Cody Kennard, April and Ashley Gardner, all of Des Moines, IA; seven great grandchildren: David Lee Spencer, Ashton and Ethan Fuches, and, Julie, Aiden, Addisen, and Alexi Inman; two brothers, Verlin (Sylvia) Alderton of Bella Vista, AR and Merlin Alderton of Mattoon, IL; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dorthea (Lee) Mathias, JoAnne Shaw, Willa Doty, and Dennis (Zarina) Bergman, all of Kahoka; Marilyn (Everett) Boice of Neosha, MO, Paula Gardner of Jacksonville, FL and Gene (Linda) Yates of Revere, MO; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, James Gardner; one daughter, Carol Renee Gardner, and two brothers in infancy.

Delora was a graduate of Revere High School. She was a stay at home mom who always had warm cookies waiting for her children when they returned from school. After they were raised, she cooked for a day care and at "Temptation's Chocolates" both in Grimes and baby sat.

She and Donnie retired to Kahoka, MO where she was a member of the Kahoka Christian Church and was also active in the women's circle as well as in Des Moines when she lived in Iowa. She was a former member of the OAT's committee and volunteered at the Clark County Senior Center. Delora was an excellent cook and loved to entertain and feed others. Her kitchen table was a gathering place for many family and friends through the years and also a favorite place for many a game of cards.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Peaksville Christian Church with Pastors Shawn McAfee and Steve Burns officiating as well as her brother, Verlin Alderton.

Burial followed in the Kahoka Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Brian Inman, Matthew Inman, Tony Bergman, Damien Verwers, Cody Kennard, and Ashton Fuches.

Friends may call at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka after noon on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Memory Care Unit at Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston, IA.
