Darrell "Dean" Webster

October 14, 1939 — August 8, 2025

Darrell Dean Webter was born October 14, 1939, to Martin and Gertude (St. Clair) Webster at their home, eleven miles south of Kahoka, MO on the Webster family farm. They lived on the farm until December 1945 when they moved to a farm at Antioch, MO. Dean attended Antioch School. He was very fond of his teacher, Miss Lucille Danker. He then attended Kahoka High School where he met Susanne Plenge. He graduated in 1958 and attended Kirksville State Teachers College for one semester before deciding to enlist in the U.S. Navy. He went to San Diego, CA for basic training in 1959.

Martin, Gertrude, Dean’s sister, Rovene, and Susanne drove to San Diego, CA and joined Dean. Dean and Susanne were married on February 14, 1960 in Oceanside, CA. The wedding was attended by Hary and Violet Plenge (Susanne’s parents) and Willis H. Hoewing (grandfather). Margaret and Victor Hoewing (aunt and uncle) were their attendants. The newlyweds resided in San Diego until Dean finished his term in the Navy. They moved to El Cajon, CA where they resided until returning to Kahoka, MO on March 30, 1961 to the Webster family farm where they spent their whole lives working together.

Dean and Susanne are the parents of 3 daughters, Helen Margaret Webster-Cox (Joseph) of Jefferson City, MO, Lisa Louise Webster, and Teresa Susanne Webster Glasgow (Jeffrey) of Bentonville, AR, five (5) grandchildren, David Cox, Holts Summit, MO, Kaitlin Cox Karl (Austin), New Franklin, MO, Amanda Glasgow Tannehill (Gregory), Ft. Worth, TX, Jacob Edward Glasgow (deceased), and Olivia Glasgow, Springdale, AR.

Dean is also survived by two sisters, Neva Webster Eads (Jerry), Carthage, IL and Rovene Webster Hamner (Karl), Kahoka, MO, and their children Tanya Eads Hanna (Leawood, KS) and her children, Valli Hamner Moore (Michael), Ft. Belvior, VA and Quentin Hamner (Kahoka, MO) and his children, and numerous other family members.

Dean was preceded in death by their daughter, Lisa Louise Webster, grandson, Jacob Edward Glasgow, his parent Martin and Gertrude Webster, his parents-in-law, Harry and Violet Plenge, brothers-in-laws Hugh, Henry and Hal Plenge and on sister-in-law, Helen Margaret Plenge (infancy). Raised as part of the family, Ronnie Graham also preceded Dean in death.

Dean’s mother was always by their side helping with the children and ever encouraging them. Gertrude was a “woman of faith” who showered her family with her Christian example. The family attended Cedar Grove Baptist Church near Kahoka for many years. Dean was saved at the age of 12 during a revival preached by Reverand Devon Hodges. Dean was proud of never missing a Sunday service for 12 years.

While living on the farm, they had a group of deer hunters from St. Louis, MO that have been coming to the farm to hunt for over 50 years. What a faithful group of friends!

Dean received a BS in Education from Culver-Stockton College in December 1968 and began teaching January 1969. He taught for 5 ½ years.

Dean was actively engaged in farming and raising livestock his whole life. He became involved in over-the-road trucking and spent most of 25 years driving and managing their trucking businesses including Progressive Transportation, Able Auto Transport, Allen Auto Transport in CA, and Auto Transport 411, which is currently managed by Teresa. They felt very blessed and had many dedicated employees over the years.

Dean was an avid reader and was involved in many endeavors but he was best suited to conservation, protecting, preserving and improving his farm by tiling, removing brush and turning his land into beautiful hills. He has had excellent help over the years but only he had the innate understanding to deal with the scope of his operation. He will be greatly missed by his family

At the preparation of this final good bye, Dean and Susanne spent 65 years together living a life full of love, some failure and loss, but with much love for their country, family, friends and community. Their motto was “We never give up.” Thank you all for being a part of their lives.
