Daniel Clayton Alderton
Daniel Clayton Alderton, age 90, of Wyaconda, MO, died Friday, April 1, 2005 at the Clark Co Nursing Home in Kahoka.
He was born May 1, 1914 in Gorin, MO, one of nine children born to Daniel and Marcia Speer Alderton.
He married Iva Mae Shulse on September 24, 1939 in Hannibal, MO. She preceded him in death on February 17, 1990.
Survivors include two sons, David Alderton, Sr. and his wife, Carol, of Kahoka, MO and Larry Alderton and his wife, Lynn, of Wyaconda, MO; one daughter, Ruth Ann Lawson and her husband, Louis, of Oskaloosa, IA; seven grandchildren: David Alderton, Jr. of Gorin, MO, Brian Alderton and his wife, Billy Jo, of Kahoka, MO, Nathan and Justin Alderton of Kahoka, MO, Amy Roseanne Alderton of Quincy, IL, Stacey Lawson Thompson and her husband, Richard, of Omaha, NE, and Regan Lawson of Des Moines, IA; three step grand-children: Josh Kirchner of Springfield, MO, Adam Kirchner of Kahoka, MO, and James Leezer of Wyaconda, MO; four great grand-children: Skyler Alderton of Gorin, MO, Zachary and Briana Mae Alderton of Kahoka, MO, and Blake Thompson of Omaha, NE; a sister, Edna Mae Kapfer of Mesa, AZ; sister-in-law, Marjorie Alderton of Wyaconda, MO; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; four brothers: Lloyd, William, Ernest, and Charles Alderton; and, three sisters: Zella Caldwell, Myrtle Scott, and Grace Hottell.
D. C. was a 1934 graduate of Gorin High School. He attended Kirksville Teacher's College and taught in rural schools for five years. Since 1940 he had been an employee with Peoples Bank and ended his career as president of the bank and board of directors in 1983.
He had served on the board of directors of the Clark Co. Nursing for over 18 years beginning in 1968 and also on the Wyaconda Cemetery and Wyaconda School Boards. He was a member if the First Baptist Church in Wyaconda and taught Sunday school for many years.
He loved farming, hunting, fishing, his cattle and grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed sporting events in Wyaconda and in the Clark County R-1 School district.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Wyaconda, MO with Rev. Ernest Deatrick officiating. Burial will be in Wyaconda Cemetery.
Friends can call at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka after 9 a.m. on Monday with family receiving friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Wyaconda First Baptist Church or Wyaconda Cemetery.
