Dale Small

October 7, 1959 — September 8, 2023

Dale Dean Small, 63, of Alexandria, passed away at 1:32 am on Friday, September 8, 2023, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.

He was born on October 7, 1959, in Kirksville, the son of the late Vancel & Roberta (Buford) Small. Dale married Dixie (Hawkins) Leeper on December 15, 1989, in Memphis, and she preceded him in death on June 28, 2023.

Dale was an over the road truck driver for many years. He drove for Vermillion Trucking and later for Schrader Trucking. He made many hauls across the United States throughout his career. Dale retired early in 2012 after a serious accident prevented him from continuing what he loved to do. Dale loved hunting and fishing and listening to country music. He especially enjoyed Ford Motors and was interested in Mustangs and Broncos. In his earlier years, he was proud of a Ford Torino that he had rebuilt. Dale was a kind soul and enjoyed visiting people and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his sons; Greg (Vickie) Leeper of Keokuk, Iowa, Randy (Ariel) Leeper of Keokuk, Iowa & Grady (Kelsey) Small of Alexandria, daughters; Jennifer Ludwig of Keokuk, Iowa & Andrea (Zach) Travis of Quincy, Illinois, nine grandchildren; Shaide, Cole, Gavin, Gabbie, Ellie, Breckyn, Abel, Sebastian & Thomas, two great grandchildren; Brayden & Aubrie, four brothers; Jesse Small of Arbela, Jody Small of Memphis, Bobby (Shelley) Small of Memphis & John (Tonya) Small of Memphis, three sisters; LeAnna Holden of Baring, Lynette “Buffy” Bell of Memphis & Angel Arnold of Memphis, a sister in-law; Connie Small of Bloomfield, Iowa, and by several nieces & nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, Dixie, Dale was preceded in death by his brother, Randy Small.
