Charles L. Salyers, age 78, of Kahoka, MO, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 in Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

Charlie was born June 6, 1941 in Kahoka, a son of James and Lorine Young Salyers.

He was united in marriage to Betty McGuinness on March 18, 1961 in Kahoka.

Survivors include his wife, Betty, of the home; mother-in-law, Betty McGuinness of Kahoka; one son, Charles L. "Chuck" (Holly) Salyers of Luray, MO; one daughter, Teri (James) Neeley of Wickliffe, KY; eight grandchildren: Brandon Salyers (Courtney Lynn Burlingame, of Wyaconda, Megan Salyers of Kahoka, Kelsey Salyers of Luray, Ebonie Shelton (Jordan Herich) of Columbia, Hanna (Marty) Seyb of Bardwell, KY, Charli (Scott) Walters of Wickliffe, KY, Breanna "Breezy" (Chase) Drummond of Barlow, KY and Brennen "Bubba" Neeley of Washington, DC; seven great grandchildren: Miranda, Dominic and Braxton Salyers, Victor Steele, Cameron Leeper, Adalaid Seyb and Oliver Drummond; one brother, Gary (Jeanne) Salyers of Leland, IL; two sisters, Gail Westercamp of Bonaparte, IA and Sharon (Eric) Sloat of Carthage, IL; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: Donna Salyers of Albuquerque, NM, Kathy Bair Salyers of Des Moines, IA and James (Ann) McGuinness of Charleston, SC; two aunts, Ilda "Chubbs" Frazier of St. Louis, MO and Waneta (Larry) Saunders of Farmington, IA as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Jimmy McGuinness; two brothers, Jimmy and Marvin Salyers; a sister, Arlene Goss; and brother-in-law, Max Westercamp.

Charlie owned and operated Jimmy’s Shoe Service in Kahoka and later the Village Inn in Wyaconda. He worked with Max and Gail Westercamp building hog complexes at Bonaparte and the past 25 years was employed by Ramsey Heating and Air Conditioning.

Charlie was raised in the Baptist faith. He loved woodworking, restoring old tractors, and singing and playing his guitar. He was devoted to making sure "Grandma Vivian" made it home from her pool hall every evening in her later years and loved caring for her. More than anything he loved being "Pappy" and telling stories and agitating the grandkids. Family gatherings were the favorite times of his life.

Funeral services were held Sunday, September 29, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastor Kim McNamar officiating. Burial followed in the Kahoka Cemetery.

Friends could call at Wilson Funeral Home after 10 a.m. Sunday, family received friends from 1:00 p.m. until time of services.

Memorials could be made to Parkinson’s or St. Jude’s.
