Charles "Dick" Nickel

Charles "Dick" Nickel, age 75, of LaPorte, IN, died Saturday, December 6, 2003 at

Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso, IN.

He was born August 29, 1928 in Kahoka, MO, a son of Charles and Faye Wade Nickel.

On June 8, 1947, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Fox in Kahoka. She preceded him in death on June 9, 2002.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandy Nickel of Littleton, MA and Dutchie Nickel of LaPorte, IN; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Harry and Thelma Fox and Betty Coovert, all of Keokuk, IA; nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a sister.

"Dick" was a graduate of Kahoka High School and attended Southeastern Community College at Keokuk. He was also a World War II veteran, serving in the Navy. He had moved to LaPorte thirty-five years ago from Keokuk, IA, and was retired from American Rubber Co. where he had been a management/supervisor. While still in Iowa, he had played football on a semi-professional team. He was an avid sports fan, particularly University of Iowa sports.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in LaPorte

Memorial services were Friday, December 12, 2003 at 1 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka, MO, with Rev. Rebecca Dunger Peak officiating. Private inurnment followed in Kahoka Cemetery. There was no visitation.
