CARLA L. SOUTH

Carla L. South, age 63, of Kahoka, MO, died peacefully early Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at her home surrounded by family.

Carla was born April 26, 1953 in Keokuk, IA, a daughter of George W. and Mary Elizabeth "May Beth" Statler LeMaster.

On October 13, 1973, she was united in marriage to Chester L. South in Wayland.

Survivors include her husband, Chester, of the home; one brother George W. (Linda) LeMaster of Wayland, MO; four sisters, Colleen South, Connie Handyside, and Martha (Randy) Ewart, all of Wayland, MO and Jeri Nell (Mrs. Kevin) Bradley of Centerville, IA; as well as nieces and nephews and their families; cousins, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Merle Wayne LeMaster; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law: Larry South, Richard Handyside, Delores and Gerald Lambert, and Jerry South.

Carla was a 1971 graduate of Clark Co. R-1 High School. Following graduation she worked a brief time at the former King's Food Host in Keokuk and then for the National Garment Factory in Memphis, MO. She worked there until she was involved in a vehicle accident in which she almost lost her life.

Carla attended the First Baptist Church in Luray and the Women's Missionary Union of the First Baptist Church in Kahoka. She also volunteered at the Clark Co. Food Pantry and the Sever Memorial Library.

Carla was an excellent cook and loved to crochet and knit. Each Christmas friends and relatives were recipients of one of her homemade gifts prepared with her time, energy, and love. She loved animals, especially cats.

Carla let her light shine through her humor and smiles as she greeted everyone she met. She shared her love through her letter ministry to prisoners who looked forward to hearing from her with her letters of encouragement interlaced with her amusing thoughts. Carla's greatest love was for her Lord and Saviour. Chester was blessed to know each morning the first thing he would find would be Carla sitting reading her Bible and praying for others.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Luray, MO with Pastor Rex Link officiating. Burial followed at Sand Cemetery in St. Francisville, MO. Music was provided by pianist Betty Jo Smith. Pallbearers were: George LeMaster, Robert LeMaster, Donnie Lambert, Ron Lambert, Steve Wood and Zack Wood.
