Betty Jean Toops Walker, age 70, of St. Francisville, MO, died Friday, November 22, 2013 in the Golden Age Nursing Home in Braymer, MO.

Betty was born May 21, 1943 at rural Alexandria, MO, one of ten children of John Earl "Tony" and Nellie Katherine Dennison Toops.

On August 8, 1965 she was married to Terry Walker and they later divorced.

Survivors include her children: Chris (Lori) Walker of Kearney, MO, and Drenda (Mrs. Joe) Neptune of Dawn, MO; four grandchildren: Cody and Kylie Walker and Chase and Kolt Neptune; one brother, Bill (Barb) Toops of Keokuk, IA; a brother-in-law, Duane Brewer of Kahoka, MO;as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Larry, Donnie and Dick Toops and five sisters: Florene Six, Dorothy Roberts, Marjorie Griffith, Berty Brewer and Tootie Swafford.

Betty attended grade school in St. Francisville and graduated from Revere High School in 1961. She attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College, receiving her Bachelor of Science in Education in 1965 and her Masters of Arts in 1968.

She taught business education for two years at Valley High in Fairview, IL and then thirty-three years at Keokuk Senior High in Keokuk, IA.

Betty was a member of the St. Francisville United Methodist Church and of the Clematis Garden Club. She loved to travel and was fortunate to have went out of the country including trips to Holland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Ireland, France, Spain, the Bahamas, Cozumel, and Jamaica. She had also enjoyed trips to Alaska, Hawaii, Maine, Washington, Oregon and Florida.

She enjoyed "yardsaling", walking, picking berries, and collecting Fire King. Drinking coffee and visiting with her neighbors meant a lot to her. She loved spending time with her kids and grandkids who were fortunate to have had her very close to them the past several years.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 25, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Rev. Goldie Laymon officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Francisville Cemetery.

Friends may call at Wilson Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Monday with family receiving friends from 10 a.m. until time of services.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Francisville United Methodist Church.
