BETTY PEARL PHILLIPS

Betty Pearl Phillips, age 79, of rural Canton, MO, died Monday, June 7, 2010 in Keokuk Area Hospital.

She was born July 12, 1930 in Scotland County, MO, a daughter of James M. and Opal Orton McDaniel.

She married Bert Hodges in 1956. He preceded her in death in 1974. In 1976, she was married to Ernest Dean Phillips who preceded her in death in 2005.

Survivors include two sons, Eddie L. Hodges and his wife, Mary, of Kirksville, MO and Bobby James Hodges and his companion, Jennifer Foster, of LaGrange, MO; one daughter, Betsy Fox and her husband, Ronnie, of Canton, MO; ten grandchildren: Misty (Patrick) Schumacher of Canton, MO, Michelle Fox and Archie Trent of Canton, MO, Ronnie Fox II and Brandi Johnson of Waterloo, IA, Scott Fox and Sarah Starks of Williamstown, MO, Owen Fox and Sue Henson of Canton, MO, Georgette Achimbi of Houston, TX, Fobang Achimbi of Houston, TX, Percy-David Awuh of Kirksville, MO, Kelvin Hodges of Kirksville, MO and Dillon Hodges of Quincy, IL; thirteen great grandchildren: Trey and Brittany Christy, Heather and Ronnie Fox III, Cruze Fox, Lacy and Chandler Schumacher, Scarlett and Jasmine Fox, Quinton Starks, Olivia Johnson, T.J., and Kaden Ndzana; two brothers, Richard McDaniel and his wife, VaLora, of Luray, MO and John W. McDaniel and his wife, Mary, of Kahoka, MO; brother-in-law, Larry Phillips of Luray, MO; sister-in-law, Allie McDaniel Rossi of Luray, MO; as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; two brothers, James Junior McDaniel and Ellis McDaniel; two sisters, Dorothy Fetteroff and Goldie Carroll; and grandson, Albert Fox.

Betty was a housewife most of her life. She and Dean ran a mowing business together for several years and later she worked at the Lewis Co. Nursing Home in the dietary department.

She was a member of the Peaksville Christian Church and attended Full Gospel in Luray. She was a former member of the Iris Garden Club and Christian Womens Fellowship. Betty enjoyed gardening and quilting in her earlier years. In later years she had thoroughly enjoyed doing word search puzzles and collecting recipes and sharing them with her family.

Funeral services wereheld Friday, June 11, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastor Shawn McAfee and Brother George Lemaster officiating. Burial was in the Kahoka Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Betty Phillips Memorial to be determined by the family at a later day.
